Neurocritical Care

Neuro critical care subsection has been started with Prof Dr UK Misra (SGPGI Lucknow) as the founder chairman and Dr Boby Varkey Maramattom from Kochi as the convenor of the subsection.

The mission and primary goals of the subsection are to familiarise neurologists with neuro critical care protocols and to encourage an interest in this sub speciality.

Our vision is to closely liaise with the international Neurocritical care Society [NCS] and to encourage the use of protocols in the management of neurological patients in the ICU. We intend to educate and encourage Neurologists in the IAN to run their own ICU’s and help in the formation of dedicated neurological and stroke Intensive care ICU’s. We are planning to hold annual Neurocritical care subsection meeting in which we will have Neurocritical care topics related to the Indian scenario as well as combine it with the Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) course in conjunction with the NCS society. The ENLS courses protocol driven curated courses designed to help healthcare professionals improve patient care and outcomes during the critical first hours of a patient’s neurological emergency. Currently in its third version, ENLS demonstrates a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach and provides a consistent set of protocols, practical checklists, decision points, and suggested communication to use during patient management. We will be conducting annual live courses which will certify participants for the duration of 2 years. The courses will be conducted by experienced ENLS trainers and participants will be certified in due course. In the meantime we are starting a membership drive for the NCC subsection. All those who are interesting in joining the NCC subsection to communicate with the IAN secretariat and remit the joining dues. If there are any suggestions regarding matters pertaining to the NCC Subsection, please do let us know. "

Sincerely,
